Ageing Well in Wales conference 2011 - Combating Social Isolation and Championing Participation
13/04/2011 - Submitted by: Hohenstein Rena
The Ageing Well in Wales Conference will be held on Thursday 19 May 2011 at The Future Inn, Cardiff. Conference attendance is free of charge but you must complete a booking form in order to guarantee your place. Overnight accommodation the night before is available at a favourable rate if booked through Age Cymru. The Conference will be looking at the role and use of Digital Inclusion (DI) and other means of outreach and community participation in combating social isolation for older people as well as showcasing ways of facilitating full social, financial and health participation of older people through embracing new technologies and community-based services.
Confirmed topics to be covered will include:
- Wellbeing Wales Sustainable Wellbeing Toolkit
- Public Health Good Practice Scheme
- Health Monitoring
- Digital Inclusion
And we intend to include:
- Community Pharmacy
- Expert patient programme
- Community radio
The event will have a strong focus on DI work as it is so topical and such an important vehicle for empowering older people to manage their health, finances and social contact, and as services are increasingly directed more towards provision through IT for efficiency saving purposes. It is vital that older people are supported and empowered in using IT to maximum personal benefit, and the Conference will also consider the benefits to health and wellbeing of closer social cohesion and community based service provision.
